English breakfast - no thanks!

Singapore is an incredible melting pot of fabulous cuisines. And yes this even means breakfast. Gone are the days of a choice of a full English, smoked salmon & scrambled eggs or eggs benny. And for that reason breakfast is fast becoming my favourite meal of the day.

In the last two weeks I have been to two places where I have tried breakfast combos I would never have dreamed about back in London.

The first place place that totally exemplifies this is the wonderful Wild Honey. For those of you that love your breakfasts and either live in Singapore or are planning a trip here anytime soon, this little gem of an eating spot is for you.

This place is all about the breakfast. But I’m not talking your normal kind of breakfast selection.

Wild Honey serves breakfasts from all across the globe – Swiss, Japanese, Yemen, Italian, Mexican, Tunisian, Belgian, Canadian, Basque, good old English, the list goes on and on.

It’s damn popular in there so we were tortured and hungry out of our minds waiting for a table to come up (you can’t book) but the nice manager (or owner) brought us out some complimentary breakfast nibbles every now and then to stop us from passing out.

We salivated as we watched breakfast after incredible breakfast make its way out of the kitchen. This is what they mean by a visual feast!

Always wanting to try something different, I opted for the Japanese – perfect little omlette balls filled with smoked salmon and a drizzle of wasabi mayonnaise, accompanied by sushi rice and seaweed salad. Wasabi mayonnaise for breakfast? I promise you it was yummy!

Mr C had the Tunisian, “a sizzling pan of red pepper, onion, and tomato stew studded with sliced chorizo sausage and crowned with two fried eggs”.

If you’re reading this in Singapore and haven’t tried Wild Honey, get there and get there early.  If you’re reading from outside the island, I urge you to check out the breakfast menu for some serious salivating time.

A week later we went to  Spruce, nestled in a leafy enclave of Phoenix Park - a seriously relaxing way to start  your Sunday.

Now I am an eggs benny/florentine girl and this is where this place gets imaginative. Choose from benny with crab cake, Turkish chicken, or Cajun prawns to name a few. Mmmm obviously being a prawn freak I chose the latter.

Yes it felt weird ordering eggs with Cajun prawns for breakfast but it tasted great!

So I guess the number one food rule in Sing is try it even if it doesn't make sense in your head and don't discriminate!

Hi - thanks for dropping by. :) I think Wild Honey has been here best part of this year. It's at the Mandarin Gallery on Orchard Road, 03-02. Let me know if you drop by, what you have and how you find it!
